New metodological approach of country-side frontier based on membership function and its application in Slovak Republic

Everybody immediately understands the term rural area. Building an objective, unequivocal definition of rurally appears to be an impossible task. The number of inhabitants is a criterion often used to define the frontier between rural and urban areas. The article presents the new methods for definition of rural areas at two hierarchical levels - local level (municipalities) and territorial unit (district, region). The methods are based on construction of membership function for rural and urban area and on number of inhabitants.
