The alpine forests (forests below upper tree line and in Swiss mountain pine zone) are one of problems that are the centre of attention in Slovak forestry, in spite of a small part of these forests from a total forest area of Slovakia (3.5 %). The reasons are their diverse and important functions and, on the other side, forest damage caused with various biotic (including anthropic) and abiotic factors. The most significant forest tree species of alpine regions of Slovakia are Larix decidua, Picea abies, Pinus cembra, Pinus mugo, Acer pseudoplatanus, Betula alba, Fagus sylvatica, Sorbus aucuparia. This report provides a basic data about seeds, nurseries and reforestation of mentioned tree species in relation to any new and prepared forestry rules of Slovakia regarding these silvicultural activities.
