Artificial induction of sexual maturation of European eel (Anguilla anguilla) by traditional and alternative ways

Induction of sexual maturity of female eel has been attempted by using three types of hormones, firstly, a novel synthetic mixture that has been used efficiently in the artificial propagation of carp was used. A second experimental group received hormone treatmnet consisting of a mixture of dried carp pituitary, domperidom (a dopamine antagonist) and vitamin E. These latter compounds have already been used in experiments for the induction of oogenesis in eel but not in this combination. Thirdly tiroxin was used to attempt induction of transformation from bronze eel into silver eel.
