A preliminary study was carried out with 10 days old African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) larvae. Selenium was apply in different form for 10 days. The treatments were sodium-selenite (2.19 and 21.9 mg/l water), sodium-selenate (2.39 and 23.9 mg/l water), selenium enriched years (Sel Plex, Alltech) in doses of 15, 30 and 300 mg/day as feed supplement. It was found that the mortality was 100% in the case of hish doses of selenite and selenate. The lower doses showed dose-dependent decrease of mortality while no such difference was found in the case of organic selenium treatment.
