Previous study indicated that using vibrating rocks the specific energy for drying was 12.9 MJ/kg vapor. The objectives of the study were to improve the drying performance of a greenhouse effect (GHE) solar dryer for cocoa beans, by employing mechanical stirrer. Test results indicated that 400 kg of cocoa beans could be dried from 55.9 percent to that 7 percent (wb) moisture in 32 hours where the average temperature, humidity and solar radiation during 4 days operation were 49.2 deg. C, 32 percent and 364.3 W/m2, respectively. The energy efficiency for three test runs was between 6.2 and 7.9 MJ/kg vapor. The installation of mechanical stirrer has been successful in overcoming the problem of sticky beans while the energy consumption of the stirrer only 2.5 percent of the total
