Nutrient requirement of rabi onion based on soil testing

The yield targets of 30 and 40 Mg ha-2 onion bulbs were easily achieved and proved the validity of fertilizer prescription equations in follow up trials. The highest monetary returns of Rs. 1,19,700 were obtained in the 40 Mg ha-1 target treatment of onion with benefit of Rs. 44,100 over farmers practice. The approach takes into account the crop needs in respect of nutrients, the yield targets and available soil nutrients and there by an application of balanced fertilizers help in harvesting higher onion yield's with maintaining soil fertility.
