1999
Singh, K. | Singh, R.P. | Dhillon, S.S. (Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana (India). Dept. of Plant Breeding).
The effect of increasing levels of nitrogen fertilization and its time of application on the end use quality of durum wheat was studied. The variety PDW 233 had a higher test weight, sedimentation value, protein content and grain hardness with lower yellow berry values than PBW 34. The grain hardness, protein content and sedimentation values increased, whereas yellow berry content and 1000 grain weight decreased with increasing levels of nitrogen. The application of N fertilizer in three split doses spanning from sowing to flag leaf emergence stage improved grain hardness, progtein content and sedimentation value, with lower yellow bery content. The semolina, too contained higher protein content, sedmintation value and carotene content and a lower content of ash when level of N application was raised or applied in three aplit doses.
