Fast depleting groundwater reserve can be restored by artificial recharge by bore well of 10 cm size easily installed by village artisans. In such wells recharge rate can be 1.5 to 1.75 litre/sec. Runoff water is to be filtered and then allowed to flow into aquifer through site-specific intake structures. A borewell installed structures. A borewell installed with 10 ha catchment area will augment additional irrigation potential for 2 ha for wheat/5 ha for mustard. Artificial groundwater recharge can be carried out by group action and peoples' participation for maintaining sustainable and improved quality of groundwater.
