Scots pine - a natural raw material for high-quality biologically active substances

The paper summarizes 10 year research results on pine tree foliage sources, their chemical composition, processing technologies and possible use of the obtained products. Brief information on the use of pine bark is given. Investigations prove that pine tree foliage and bark is a perspective raw material for the obtaining of biologically active substances for pharmacy, cosmetics, food industry, plant protection and other branches of economy. Complex utilization of pine tree biomass might give substantial income increase for forest enterprises. The research suggests that utilization of tree foliage does not cause the risk of the decrease of forest productivity in boreal forests.
