The aim of this study was to determine the effect of atropine sulfate and acepromasine maleate separately in different concentrations on the main functional parameters of an isolated frog heart, and the exhibition of the total efect of the two anaesthetics of premedication on the action of the heart. Thirty-six male frogs Rana temporaria were used for the experiment. Acepromasine maleate in lower concentrations was found to cause a positive chronotropic and inotropic effect on the heart, but at higher concentrations the chronotropic and inotropic effect was negative. The total effect of the two premedications on the frequency of the action of the heart and the strength of the cardiac muscle contraction were exhibited as a negative chronotropic and negative inotropic effect. In 66.8% of cases, atropine sulfate and acepromasine maleate caused significant disturbances of the cardiac rhythmic action.
