A study was conducted to investigate the feeding systems, feed availability and nutrient content in feed and forages given to yak and chauri in Rasuwa district in 1999. Some locally available grasses were nutritionally good and contained crude protein as high as 18-19 percent on dry matter basis. Over all feed and feeding situations of yak and chauri was discouraging, some immediate measures needed for uplifting the nutritional status of the animals. Improvement of pastures through various techniques may be the first step in this regard. Identification of suitable indigenous species and some other improved grass and legumes for introduction in the pastures could be vital.
