Inventory and status of dicots in Musuan, Bukidnon [Philippines]

An assessment of the dicot population in CMU [Central Mindanao University] was conducted to provide baseline information on the identification and conservation of such species. Findings showed that there were 395 dicot species belonging to 79 families and 273 genera. Of these 395 species, 121 were trees; 121 herbs; 106 were shrubs; and 28 were vines. The dicots were classified as: endemic (36), depleted (29), rare (3) and endangered (2). There were 157 species recorded to have economic value. Endangered species found in the area were Cananga odorata and Cinnamomum mindanaoensis. The species considered rare in the area were Pterospermum diversifolium and Cassia javonica. Family Leguminoseae had the highest number of genera and species among the 79 dicot families. Species belonging to Family Compositae (Asteraceae) were present in all zones
