2001
Cabalonga, F.D. (Eastern Samar State Coll., Borongan, Eastern Samar (Philippines))
Rice varieties mostly affected by insect pest were determined and the most common insect pests and predators that affect the crop were identified under Eastern Samar [Philippines] conditions. Findings showed that PSB Rc60 in its various stages exhibited the most number of insect pest such as rice bug, thrips, brown planthopper, stemborer and rice skippers. This was followed by PSB Rc 34 which was infected by whorl maggot and black bugs. PSB Rc 28, 52, 56 and 74 were infested by green leafhopper, caseworm, leaffolder and white-backed planthopper, respectively. PSB Rc 58 had very low infestations of white backed planthopper, rice skipper and green leafhopper. This was followed by PSB 52 from black bug and leaffolder. PSB Rc 18, 64, 74 and Bacsalan were least infested by rice bug, caseworm whorl maggot and thrips, respectively. PSB Rc 58 exhibited the highest number of predators like long-jawed spider, lady beetle, and orb spider. This was followed by PSB Rc 34 of ground beetle and damselfly predators. PSB Rc 18 and 74 produced the least long-jawed spider and damselfly predators
