2001
Rehman, A. | Shakoori, A.R. (Punjab Univ., Lahore (Pakistan). Cell and Molecular Biology Lab.)
Two plants Suaeda fruticosa and Trianthema mongyna were collected from chromium polluted industrial area of Kasur district. Total and hexavalent chromium was estimated by diphenylcarbazide method. The concentration of chromium accumulates in Suaeda fruticosa is 18.0 plus minus 1.066 mug/mg, while it is 2.1 plus minus 0.153 mug/mg in Trianthema mongyna. SDS- PAGE analysis did not show any significant difference between protein banding pattern of control and Cr6+ treated plants. These plants are effective for the removal of heavy metals from soil and hence can help eliminate toxic metals from the environment.
