Data on 1259 performance records of 310 Cholistani cows maintained at Government Livestock Farm Jogait Peer Distt. Bahawalpur during 1984-1999 were utilized in the present study. The least squares means for milk yield, lactation length and dry period were 1029.68 plus minus 44.35 kg, 209.47 plus minus 11.14 and 237.87 plus minus 20.98 days, respectively. Year of calving had a significant (P0.01) while season of calving had non-significant effect on all the traits studied. Lactation length had a significant (P0.01) effect on milk yield whereas lactation number had a significant (P0.01) effect on dry period only. The repeatability estimates for milk yield, lactation length and dry period were 0.162, 0.152 and 0.163, respectively. The corresponding values for heritability estimates were 0.157 plus minus 0.045, 0.066 plus minus 0.049 and 0.092 plus minus 0.073, respectively. The genetic analysis revealed that there was appreciable additive genetic variance in production traits of Cholistani cattle indicating substantial scope for improvement.
