Performance of some commercial and non-commercial strawberry cultivars was studied in a field trial at Agricultural Research Station (North) Mingora Swat during 1997-98. Six strawberry cultivars viz. Chandler, Korona. Tufts, Gorella, Tioga and Sequoia were included in the trial. Analysis of the data showed that all the cultivars had a significant effect on runner survival rate, days to flowering, days to last harvest, number of berries produced per plant, root length, yield per plant and total yield. The results revealed that maximum runners survival rate (75%) was recorded for the plants of cultivar Tioga. Maximum days to flowering (131.7), yield per plant (0.43 kg) and total yield (34110 kg/ha) were recorded for the plants of cultivar Chandler. While the plant of cultivar Korona showed maximum dais to last harvest (205.7), number of berries produced per plant (7.32) and root length (15.40 cm). Among commercial cultivars Chandler is recommended for the local growers of Swat. While cultivar Tioga is recommended among non-commercial cultivars.
