Profile of floriculture industry in Quetta valley [Pakistan]

This study was undertaken to acquire information about the present status of floriculture industry in Quetta valley. The total eighteen number of commercial nurseries in Quetta city were taken as a case study in summer 1998. Interview sheets were used to discover facts and figures about the floriculture industry. It was found that majority of the nurseries (60%) supervisors were owners and most of them were illiterate as well as untrained in the of floriculture and nursery management. Maximum number of nurseries (80%) had 50-200 plant species. Large of nurseries (60%) were propagating their own stock or getting it from other nurseries in research area. Demands of foliage evergreen plants were high (80%) as compared to seasonal flowering plants. A very small of nurseries (26.67%) were providing landscape services. Maximum number of nurserymen (53.34%) were views that the future of this business is bright, while some of them considered it to be normal in future and small number indicated that it might decline in future.
