Ahmad, N. | Tariq, J.A. | Kazi, M.H. (NWFP Agricultural Univ., Peshawar (Pakistan). Dept. of Water Management)
The relative water supply (RWS) indicated that overall irrigation supply remained less than irrigation requirement. It showed sufficient supply to the present cropping pattern at the head watercourse and less than required at the tail watercourse. Contrary to the head and tail, two farms on the middle watercourse showed RWS higher than I and reflected poor management and farmers diverting more water than required by crops leading to inequity in the system. The average conveyance losses of 21.5,29.5 and 26.8% were found in 3900/R, Tail/R and Tail/L watercourses respectively. The average water depths applied to maize, sugarcane, and peach were 29,60 and 76 mm respectively and were less than the recommended depths. Statistical analysis showed that the timely availability of water and level of satisfaction with irrigation. Reliability were not associated with the position on minor. The Adequacy of water supply was found associated with the position on minor statistically. Farmers who received water always on time were 53%, most often on time 40% and one half the time on time 7% at the head. Similarly, 27%, 60% and 13% at the tail. Adequate water supply was received by 67% farmers and one half of the adequate water supply by 33% at the head reach. Adequate water supply was received by 27% and half of the Adequate water supply by 73 farmers at the tail. The water users at the tail and head were equally satisfied with reliability of irrigation water. The Jirga, decision making body, verdict in disputed cases and resolve conflicts.
