The studies were conducted to find out the most, economical and safe type of insecticidal formulation against maize stem borer. On the basis of average of three years data, the least leaf and stem infestation were recorded in double application of granules followed by seed dressing insecticide and emulsifiable concentrate. However, these insecticides had non-significant differences but significantly better than the check. Grain yield was maximum in double application of granules and had non- significant differences from seed dressing insecticide. Granules with single application and emulsifiable concentrate had non-significant differences, in grain yields from each other but had grain yield significantly lower than above formulations and higher than the check. Parasites were totally absent in emulsifiable concentrate and very few in double application of granules. However, they were present in case of single application of granules, seed dressing insecticide and the check. The later mentioned formulations are safer for biological agent of insect control. Benefit/Cost ratio was maximum in seed dressing insecticides followed by double and single application of granules, and emulsifiable concentrate. Because of higher costs, Marginal Rate of Return of double application of granules and emulsifiable concentrate were negative which strongly favours the seed dressing insecticides followed by granules with one application in furrows at sowing time for the economical control of maize stem borer.
