Stability parameters of breeding bird communities in an intensively used farmland
2001
Tryjanowski, P. (Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznan (Poland). Department of Avian Biology and Ecology)
Stability patterns of a farmland bird community in Western Poland were studied on the basis of mapping censuses made in 1987-1997. Fluctuations were characterised by the variation in the number of species (CV = 8.7%), density of pairs (CV = 20.1) and the average annual species turnover (T = 0.116). The variation in population density of the different species was significantly negatively correlated (r = -0.79) with their average population density during the 11 years. Community variability (both, in Poland and in other places) increased the longer the communities were observed, indicating that comparisons of variability between community have to take temporal scale into account
