The identification and discrimination of potato varieties is important at breeding, seed production and processing industry. Modern potato production demands more rapid and discriminating methods useful for all parts of potato plants and RAPD analysis meets all these requirements. Random amplified polymorphic DNAs were used to distinguish 10 potato varieties. Primers 1, 6 and 10 distinguished all tested varieties. Some primers produced greater numbers of amplified DNA fragments and polymorphisms and therefore are more suitable for identification and discrimination of potato varieties. The RAPD analysis is more suitable for detection of polymorphism of than electrophoresis of tuber proteins and isosyme analysis regardless tissue and or environmental factors
