In order to follow alteration at the content of mineral nitrogen in soil (ortic luvisoil) polyfactorial experiments were established in years 1998-1999. Locality (Dolna Malanta) is situated in south-western part of the Slovak Republic in warm and medium dry climatic area. In frame of three-culture farming were included in the experiment pea, winter wheat and maize for grain. Two treatments of soil cultivation were applied: a - ploughing to the depth 0.2 m (in the case of maize 0.3 m) and following with superficial soil arrangement; b - treatment of soil with combined cultivator (used two-times on maize). Experiment had three treatments of fertilization: K - non-fertilized control, R - rational fertilizer application according to the soil nutrient content and required crop yield, Z - crop residues ploughdown and rational fertilizer application according to the soil nutrient content and required crop yield. Soil for assignment of nitrate and ammonium nitrogen was taken out of deep 0 - 0.3 m and 0.3 - 0.6 m always before seeding and after harvest (in case of wheat before fertilization). Fertilization and basic soil cultivation had not decisive effect on content of inorganic nitrogen in soil under wheat and maize during vegetation. The most content of inorganic nitrogen was observed in the soil under pea and the N-NH4+/N-NO3- ratio was slid towards ammonium nitrogen. The favourable influence of pea on rise of nitrogen content in soil through biological fixation of atmospheric nitrogen was signified
