Bees families are estimated as to their winter hardiness and productivity, that is main features for the breeding work. Indices are described comprising the notion "winter hardiness", in particular the bees ability to keep a large excrement load in the back section of their bowels, nosematosis resistance, the amount of mortality. In addition, winter food consumption is taken into account when estimating winter hardiness. The complex bees' winter hardiness estimation is pointed out to include: beginning of egg laying by a queen, the amount of the bee broods grown in winter, bees condition and effectiveness after wintering. The total productivity of bees families is comprised by the amount of hive products produced: honey, wax, pollen, propolis, royal jelly, bee venom and pollinatiion activity. All the features for breeding improvement are summarized by honey productivity. Estimating the honey productivity allows subdividing families into groups of high and average productivity. The first group features is recommended to be used as the bee rearing base
