Investigation on the effects of fertilizer levels on plant growth, grain yield and grain quality of two rice varieties, one being P4 - a variety with high protein content and the other C70 - a normal rice variety was conducted by the Food Crops Research Institute in summer season and spring season of 2000. Results indicate that for given varieties and at given fertilizer levels and ARN-ADN contents in the meristem tissues are decreased at booting stage and heading stage in both spring and summer seasons. Among the 5 fertilizer levels applied and for both varieties, it is found that the application of 20 kg N + 10 tons of manure per ha + Komix spraying gives the highest tillers per plant, grain yield per ha and protein content in rice grain. And regardingless of fertilizer levels and planting season, grain yield and protein content of variety P4 are always higher than that of variety C70
