In the present study, the anatomical features of three critically endangered species, Achillea ochroleuca, Helichrysum arenarium and Dianthus diutinus, included in the "Red Data Book of Flora of Serbia 1", have been investigated in the aim of the better understanding of their ecology, especially for pointing out the significance of the protection of these plants. All three species studied are xeromorphic, malacophyllous (Achillea ochroleuca and Helichrysum arenarium ssp. arenarium) or sclerophyllous (Dianthus diutinus) psammophytes exhibiting a slight eco-anatomical plasticity. The survival of these plants may be ensured primarily by the protection of their habitats.
