Influence of the way of forming stalk on dynamics of growth, income and quality of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum, Mill.)

During 2000 and 2001 an experiment was conducted on an experimental field. There were the following variants applied in the experiment: free growth with sticking, free growth with placing sticks 1.5 m from a stick to a stick and strengthening the plants with a string in the shape of an eight; growing on the stalk without decaptation; growing on one stem with six clusters; growing on one stem with four clusters; growing on two stems without decaptation; growing on two stems with decaptation after the sixth (the first stem), that is after the forth cluster (the second stem); growing on three stems without decaptation. On the basis of the obtained results it can be concluded that in both research years observed the best height of a plant, mass of plant, mass of stem, mass of leaves, number of leaves and mass of green fruits were in variants that didn't include removing of lateral branches. The largest mass of fruits, as well as the number of fruits in clusters was achieved in the variant where the removing all lateral branches was applied and where the plant was grown with four or six clusters. Differences in pH values were minimal, while the content of organic acids was higher in variants with two stems. The content of vitamin C was the highest in variants where the fruits where the tiniest and the number of stems was the biggest. The largest total yield as well as the yield of market fruits was noted in the variant where the plants were grown on three stems without decaptation, while the largest early income was realized in the variants where special agrotechnical measure (removing all lateral branches and decaptation) were applied, so that the plants were grown on one stems with six or four clusters.
