[Begecka Jama [Serbia, Yugoslavia] in the condition of anthropogenic eutrophication]

The Begecka Jama (Serbia, Yugoslavia), the surface of 40 ha and varied depth, is located in the flooded zone of the Danube. It is connected with the Danube by the Begej canal, at 1276.2 km of its course. The area is under intensive anthropogenic influence. Waters from arable land and nearby weekend-settlement, rich in nutrients, reach the pond of Begecka Jama, causing changes of its flora and fauna. The protected area of Begecka Jama, although under intensive anthropogenic influence, maintained its basic nature values. It plays an important role in the conservation of the Danube Basin biodiversity. The paper deals with the state and role of the phytoplankton, aquatic vegetation and fishes, as indicators of eutrophication, proposing measures for preservation of this water ecosystem and its multilateral purposes.
