Preservation of biological diversity of Turkish filbert (Corylus colurna L.)

In this paper the results of the examinated influential factors connected to the production of seed material of Turkish filbert (Corylus colurna L.). By selection 45 mother trees from green area of Novi Sad were separated for potential source of material seed. Experimental work in seed production included phenological observation, seed collection, examination of morphological and physiological characteristics of nuts, examination of content of the most important nutritious components, determination of the most suitable ways of seed processing and storage nuts. Results of longterm research showed significant individual differences which were caused by genotype and influential ecological factors. For special protection and preservation of germplasm 13 genotypes are separated which seed material showed special results in seedling production. The suggestion is to direct the plant production material of Turkish filbert for the needs of different activities and study biodiversity in forest association in Yugoslavia.
