[Yield and forage quality of perennial legumes grown for different purposes]
2001
Marinkovic, L.
In the agroecological conditions of the Vojvodina Province, Serbia (Yugoslavia), comparative investigation of yield components and forage quality of five perennial legumes grown for seed and both seed and fodder was carried out, with the view to better usage of the producing potential of the varieties. For the investigation were used alfalfa cultivar NS Mediana ZMS V, sainfoin cultivar Makedonka, red clover cultivar Diana, birdsfoot trefoil cultivar Bokor and galega cultivar Gale. The following yield components were observed: yield of green forage and hay, plant height and leaf area index. Among quality traits, the following components were observed: crude proteins, crude cellulose, crude fat matters, crude ash content, content of nitrogen free extracts, as well as energetic value of dry matter. The results of research lead to the conclusion that in agroecological conditions in the Vojvodina Province, Serbia (Yugoslavia) sainfoin can realize high yield and forage quality. However, even though the high green forage, red clover is less convenient for growing in these conditions because it has a short life. Together with alfalfa, sainfoil and birdsfoot trefoil should be leading legumes for growing in less suitable and more arid parts of the Vojvodina Province and F.R. Yugoslavia.
