Mrhalkova, I. (Vyzkumny Ustav Zemedelske Ekonomiky, Prague (Czech Republic))
Between the years 2000 and 2001, consumer prices of foods and soft beverages increased in average by 5.1 % in the Czech Republic, the highest increase having been observed for fruits and fruit products (13.2 %). On the contrary, consumer prices of milk and some milk products, coffee, tea, cocoa beverages, and beef decreased slightly. Differences between Prague and other Czech towns or regions could have beeen observed. As food products and beverages occupied about 20 % of the Czech consumer basket, their consumer prices were an important inflation rate factor.
