Impact of conservation tillage on grain yield of field crops comparing to conventional tillage at different sites

In three-year experiments at different sites in the Czech Republic and Slovenia the influence of reduced soil tillage with use of various kind of mulch on production of crops in the experimental rotations was studied. Conservation way of soil tillage in the CR was based on direct sowing into no-tilled soil covered with mulch from biomass of catch crops left over winter (for next spring crops) or from the straw and post harvest residues of soybean (for winter wheat). Slovenian conservation variant was founded on shallow soil tillage with simultaneous embedding of post harvest residues and catch crops biomass. Grain yields at site with light sandy soil were significantly higher under conservation tillage than in conventional one. In site with heavier soil grain production was lower in conservation variant or the yield results were very similar. During the experiment the yields were progressively getting comparable in both variants of soil tillage. The same trend was also found at the experimental site in Slovenia.
