This article deals with scientific studies of non-native tree species at Estonia's forest research institutions. The dendrological studies conducted over the last 55 years may be summed up as follows: 1. Studies of plantations of the existing introduced trees. Particular attention in forestry has been paid to larch species, followed by other coniferous tree species. Of deciduous trees, research has primarily dealt with poplars, with less attention paid to other tree genera; 2. Studies of introduced species aimed at forestation of various non-arable lands and man-made landscapes, and at establishment of protection forests. 3. Studies of introduced species in experimental forest districts and forestry collections. 4. Studies of seed orchards, nurseries and planting stock breeding. 5. Studies of diseases and pests affecting introduced species. 6. Studies of the history of introduced species. 7. Botanical and dendrological studies related to the species richness, spread, cold resistance, etc., of native and introduced dendroflora, and to the diversity of collections, parks and urban vegetation
