Meeting the energy requirement of suckling piglets in their creep feeding period
2001
Lember, A. (Estonian Agricultural Univ., Tartu (Estonia))
Energy requirement of suckling piglets during their creep feeding period (22...56 days) was calculated regarding the sow milk and creep feed intake. Theoretical calculations were based on following data: 1)maintenance requirement of piglets- 0.32 MJ ME 1 kg live weight. 2)energy content of weight gain of piglets- 9.2 MJ/kg; 3)metabolizable energy utilization efficiency for weight grain - 0.64; 4)partial requirement for litter gain- 14.4 MJ/kg (9.2:0.64); 5)sow milk metabolizable energy content 4.6 MJ/kg; 6)sow milk yield was calculated by Walker and Young (1992). Investigation showed that metabolizable energy requirement of suckling piglets during creep feeding period varied considerably. Sow milk energy covered of 39,3-62,4 per cent of total metabolizable energy consumed by piglets. less metabolizable energy and protein during lactation consumed sows produced less milk and their piglets creep feed intake consituted a larger amount (over 50 per cent) of all energy consumed by piglets during their creep feeding period
