In accordance with the old and new references, different types of classification, which appear contradictory for the two taxa Medicago ciliaris and M. intertexta have been mentioned. The main parameters used to differentiate and to classify these two taxa are the same whatever the classification attributed to these two taxa (different species, different varieties, the one subspecies of the other). In the context of the characterization of the local phytogenetic resources, and in order to improve the classification of M. ciliaris and M. intertexta, several studies (Auto-ecology, Behavior, Biometry, Morphology, Speciation) have been carried out. In this contribution, we focused our study on the morphological and phenological characterization of these two taxa. Upon 18 Algerian populations (9 populations for each taxon), different phenological and morphological parameters have been consistently studied. According to this database, factorial discriminate analysis, clusters and linear regressions between biological characters and ecological factors (origin) have been achieved. The statistical analysis showed significant differences between M. ciliaris and M. intertexta. Two distinct strategies of development have been noticed in these two taxa. It appears that M. ciliaris is precocious and produce more pods per plant, however the number of seeds per pod is reduced in comparison with M. intertexta
