Chadha, R.C. (Poshak Feeds Private Ltd., 16 KM Stone, NS Road, Thurkhyamzal Village & Post, Hyderabad (India))
Though the Indian red jungle fowl is the acknowledged ancestor of many a modernday hybrid chicken, the poultry in India remained confined as a backyard activity until 1960s. The real thrust to poultry was given by the late Dr B.V.Rao by establishing Venkateshwara Hatcheris(VH) Group. Every single innovative step taken by the Indian poultry industry can be traced to the VH Group and to Dr Rao's initiative. The Indian poultry industry developed in a span of four decades through initiatives such as setting up nationwide network of hatcheries, health care, specific pathogen-free technology, breeding better layer and broiler types, processing, training, and empowering farmers to influence the market. The future of Indian poultry industry is very bright and India can be the world leader if policies of the government remain supportive.
