The paper analyses the innovation policy and demonstrates the crucial role played by innovation in bussines competitiveness and growth. Innovation is the source of new and improved products, services and processes, and may create entirely new markets and new areas of economic and social activity. Therefore public authorities play a vital part in creating conditions in which wider social and economic benefits of innovation can be maximised.
