After transition period in Latvia the first activity in the field of plant protection was to change the legislation. Both, the content of agricultural education and consultation, were changed thanks to several co-operational projects with the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and the Danish Institute of Agricultural Sciences. The Department of Plant Biology and protection from the Latvia University of Agriculture worked together with the Latvian State Plant Protection Service, State Plant Protection Centre and Latvian Agricultural Advisory and Training Centre to implement a new strategy of plant protection using computer models and computerised meteorological data.
