Response of farmers of the Royal New Theory of managing agricultural land in Khaowong District, Kalasin, Northeast Thailand

The study revealed that farmer-respondents had favorable attitude towards the project because they believe that the project would improve their quality of life and that it is an appropriate strategy to solve economic crisis. The farmer-respondents had high perception towards the RNT [Royal New Theory] project because majority perceived that the project would make the people sustainable and prosperous and that the project provided them new knowledge to improve their farming activities, they still need more training on crop rotation, fertilizer application, plant propagation, poultry and livestock raising in order to generate more income aside from their rice farming. All of the respondents aspired for more money, more government attention and improved services, and happy, healthy family. Almost all of the respondents cited that the land ownership is very important. For the community, the respondents aspired for more adequate water supply, improved standard of living, community cooperation and peace and order. Four motivating factors namely, material gain, achievement, prestige and affiliation were cited by the respondents who joined and participated in the project. Foremost was material gain with 100%, followed by achievement, prestige and affiliation with 84%, 58% and 29%, respectively
