Effect of irrigation frequencies applied at different growth stages on the newly evolved wheat genotypes

The present study was carried out to access the effect of irrigation frequencies applied at various growth stages on newly evolved wheat genotypes at experimental field Agriculture Research Institute, Tandojam during 1998-99. The existing Mehran-89 and Abadgar-93 and newly evolved 7001 and 7002 wheat genotypes were tested against three irrigation frequencies 5, 4 and 3 applied at a various growth stages. A four replicated split plot design was used keeping irrigation as main plots and varieties as sub-plots. A 3 x 2m sub-plot area was maintained. Observations were recorded on various agronomic characters and analyzed statistically. Simple correlation and regression was tabulated between seed, straw yields and their related characters and irrigation frequency. The findings of experiment showed plant population/m2, plant height, tillers/plant, earhead/plant, number of seeds/spike, seed weight/spike, seed index, grain and straw yield. It was concluded that 5 irrigation applied at various growth stages to both existing and newly evolved wheat varieties yielded significantly more as compared with 4 or 3 irrigation. Among the four genotypes tested newly evolved 7001 and 7002 gave more grain and straw yield.
