HPLC analysis of secnidazole excreted in urine of female volunteers after its oral administration
2001
Kayani, S.Q.
The urinary excretion of secnidazole in ten healthy, adult female volunteers aging between 21-24 years was investigated oral administration of 1g secnidazole to study the, fate of drug under indigenous conditions concentration of secnidazole in urine was determined by HPLC assay. The average plus minus SE value of pH of urine was 5.576 plus minus 0.057 ranging from 5.311 to 6.088. The average plus-minus SE value of urine concentration of sec nidazole was 0.288 plus-minus 0.06 ug/mL ranging from 0.16 to 0.68 ug/mL after 3285 min post-medication. There was a significant negative correlation between drug concentrations in urine vs urine volume, but non significant, correlation was observed in urine volume vs time, and urine, volume vs pH, and drug concentration in urine vs urine pH. The cumulative amount of secnidazole excreted in urine after 3285 min (54.25 hour) was 400.79 plus-minus 25.8 ug/mL and it 226.2 to 496.8 ug/mL. The average plus-minus SE cumulative percentage dose excreted at 3285 min after oral administration of 1g secnidazole was 40.08 plus-minus 2.58, ranging from 22.62 to 49.68 percent. This value of cumulative percentage close excreted at 3285 min is lower than reported in literature because of environmental and genetic factors differing in our local environment and foreign countries. Hence in order to carry out the drug therapy on a rational basis this study support the need to have an accurate and reliable guidance about drug, its action and its efficacy against diseases regarding which the drug can be effectively used under the indigenous conditions.
