Efficacy of different weed control methods on growth and yield of mungbean (Vigna radiata L.)
2001
Shahzad, W.F.
The investigation to ascertain the efficacy of different weed control methods on growth and yield of mungbean was conducted at the Research Area of Department of Agronomy, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, during the year 2000, on a sandy clay loam soil. Mungbean variety NM-92 was used as a test crop. The experiment was shown in the month of July using Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with net plot size measuring 1.8 mx7m. The treatments studied, were weedy check, mechanical weed control (One hand weeding 15 DAS), Dualgold 960EC @ 2.51 ha-1 (Pre-emergence) and Stomp 330 E@ 2.51 ha-1 (Pre-emergence) and Treflan 4EC @ 2.51 ha-1 applied as pre- plant incorporated. Herbicides were sprayed with CP-3 knapsack hand sprayer. The salient features of the study are as under: Weed count and weed biomass were found to be significantly affected by different weed control treatments. However, maximum values of these parameters were obtained in weedy check and minimum in pre-plait incorporation of Treflan. Treflan and Stomp effectively controlled both grasses and broad leaf weeds while Dualgold was more effective against grassy weeds especially Cyperns rotudus. Various weed control treatments like number of pods-plant-1, number of seeds pod-1 and 1000- seed weight of mungbean were increased significantly by all weed control treatments. Maximum seed yield of 955.9 kg ha-1 was obtained with pre-plant incorporation of Treflan @ 2.51 ha-1 followed by Stomp (Pre- emergence) @ 2.5 l ha-1 which resulted in seed yield of 925.9 kg ha-1. All weed control treatments increased the biological yield and harvest index values over weedy check. The economic analysis revealed that net benefits was highest with pre-plant incorporation of Treflan.
