To study the effect of seed rates on yield and yield components of wheat cultivars, an experiment was conducted at Agriculture Research Farm, NWFP Agricultural University, Peshawar during 2000-2001. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with split plot arrangement and four replications. Sub plots size of 4 x 3 m2 with row to row distance, of 30 cm was used. Two varieties, Inqilab-91 and Bakhtawar-92 and four seed rates, 50, 100, 120 and 150 kg/ha were studied in the experiment. Maximum number of spikes/m2 (264.0), plant height (97 cm) and grain yield (3346 kg) were recorded at seed rate of 150 kg/ha. Maximum number of grains/spike (41.62) and thousand grain weight (44.25g) were recorded at seed rate of 50 kg/ha. In cultivars, maximum spikes/m2 (226), grains/spike (40) and grain yield (3530 kg/ha) was recorded for Bakhtawar-92. Inqilab-91 produced eminent plant height (97cm) and higher thousand grain weight (43.5g).
