Lead and cadmium are toxic in trace amount. Seventeen different brands of cigarettes smoked in Pakistan were analyzed for the determination of the levels of lead and cadmium using graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The minimum and maximum concentrations (mug/g of the dried cigarette tobacco) of these metals have been found to be as: Pb, 7.95-23.25 and Cd, 0.07-6.95.
