In order to cool the poultry house structure during hot summer that is in the months of May, June, July and August the present study was designed to evaluate the possibility of developing an effective solar powered absorption type air conditioning unit for poultry house. structures in NWFP With the ever increasing cost of electrical energy, this kind of air conditioning unit is becoming very important for general use in the country. From this design effort it was concluded that an air conditioning unit of 3.5 tons capacity, was possible. The co-efficient of performance for this kind of system was calculated as 72.8%. The total heat received by the system came out to be 29.21 K. W. And the total heat extracted by the system came out to be 29.18 K. W. The initial cost e unit will be approximately twice the cost of the compression unit. However, the running cost of the system 3 5 tons capacity and operating for 8 hours was Rs.7.62/- compare to Rs. 365/- for compressor type electric air-conditioning unit. The low cost of the system was because the absorption system uses only a quarter horsepower pump for circulation of refrigerant.
