In corn-soybean feed for chicks, canola meal was substituted for soybean meal at 15, 20 and 25% levels of the ration. All rations were isoproteic, fed at 22% protein level with a randomized block design having four replications (25 chicks/ replication). The chicks were reared for six weeks, and at the end of this period 10 healthy chicks were selected to evaluate their weight gain. It was observed that chicks fed control feed (with 25% soybean meal) gain significantly (p=0.05) more weight than rations containing 20 and 25% canola meal. Although feed intake, feed conversion ration (FCR) and protein efficiency ratio (PER) were not much different among the rations, however higher mortality was observed in chicks fed more canola meal. It was concluded that canola meal should not exceed more than 15% in the ration to reduce mortality and achieve higher dressing percentage of the chicks.
