Varietal cum row spacing trial on cotton
2000
Qureshi, M.A.
A field experiment "varietal cum row spacing trial on cotton" was conducted at Agronomy experimental field Agriculture Research Institute, Tandojam during summer season of 1999. Seeds of three cotton varieties (NIAB-78, T.S-35 and TH-3/81) were planted in a four replicated randomized complete Block Design to test the three inter row spacings (45, 60 and 75 cm). Observations were recorded on agronomic characters and were subjected to analysis of variance to test the superiority of mean values LSD test was applied. Days to flowering were affected significantly by the inter row spacing and varieties, while their interactions were non-significant. Maximum flowering days (52.40, 56.00 and 60.00) were recorded under 75 cm row spacing, variety T.S-35 and their iteration. Plant height differed significantly (P less than 0.01) due to different row spacing and varieties, while their interactions were non-significant. Cotton Sown in rows 45 cm apart, variety TH-3/83 and their interaction displayed taller plants (146.07, 144.10 and 153.00 cm). Number of monopodial branches varied significantly (P less than 0.01) due to change in row spacing and varieties, while their interactions were non-significant. Maximum number of monopodial branches (3.07, 3.05 and 3.50/plant) were recorded in case of 75 cm row spacing, variety TH- 3/83 and their interaction respectively. Number of sympodial blanches differed significantly (P less than 0.01) due to change in row spacing, varieties and their interactions were non significant. However, 75 cm row spacing, variety NIAB-78 and their interaction bears maximum number of branches (11.00, 12.60 and 13.50/plant) Number of bolls/plant varied significantly (P less than 0.01) due to inter row spacing and varieties. While their interactions were non-significant. Greater number of bulls (43.27, 41.00 and 48.15/plant) was recorded under 75 cm row spacing, variety TH-3/83 and their interaction respectively. Seed cotton yield/plant was affected significantly by the inter row spacing and varieties, while their interactions were non-significant maximum seed cotton yields (36.13, 32.43 and 40.00, g/plant) were obtained under 75 cm row, spacing, variety TH-3/83 and their interactions respectively. Seed cotton yield/plot was affected significantly by the row spacings and varieties whereas their interactions were non-significant. Cotton sown in 45 cm, row apart variety TH-3/83 or NIAB-78 and their interaction produced maximum yield (4.12, 3.88, or 3.75 and 4.411 or 4.25 kg/plot). It was noted the seed cotton yield/ha was affected significantly by the inter row spacing, and varieties, whereas, cotton sown in rows 45 cm, variety TH-3/83 or NIAB-78 their interactions displayed higher seed cotton yield (1372, 1293 or 1252 and 1480 or 1415 kg/ha).
