Studies on the composition of strawberry fruit

Various strawberries are planted in different parts of Pakistan particularly in Northern Punjab, NWFP, Hunza Valley, Baltistan and Balochistan. Pakistani fruit has been declared to have arome similar to wild strawberry. The straw berry produced of Swat areas are delicious and sweet. It has sweet fragrance as these belong to family Genius fragaria. The fruit has been analyzed for its chemical constituents and minerals (i.e.) insoluble solids, total sugars, soluble solids, total solids, ash, sodium, magnesium, phosphorous, calcium, nitrogen, potassium etc. The comparative study indicated that fruit was nutritionally comparable to the one produced in other places/areas than NWFP In view of its low sodium and high potassium contents, this fruit and its juice were considered to be suitable for hypertension. Presence of different chemicals and minerals emphasized its importance as perfect fruit to be consumed for different deficiencies in human body.
