Effect of replacement of fish meal with different levels of meat meal on growth of broilers

The experiment was conducted to study the effect of replacement of fishmeal at different ratios with meat meal on the growth performance of broilers. For this purpose 200 days old chicks were reared on the five experimental rations upto 42 days of age. The chicks were randomly distributed into five groups of 40 birds each. The body weight of individual birds was recorded at weekly intervals. The daily feed offered was recorded and refused feed and feed consumption was calculated weekly. Five birds from each group were taken at random and slaughtered for carcass weight and weight of internal organs (liver, heart, gizzard and Intestine), Result revealed significant difference among weight gain of chicks fed on different experimental rations A, B, C, D and F were 1805.33g, 1859.51g. 1842.88g, 1881g and 1961.06 respectively. Results revealed highly significant differences among total feed consumption of chicks fed on different rations were 3755g, 3736g, 3745g, 3726g and 3713g respectively. The total feed conversion of bird E was 2.07, 2.00, 2.03, 1.98 and 1.89 respectively. Better feed utilization was observed in chicks fed on ration E as compared to other. Carcass weight of birds was 1040.35 g. 1160.16 g, 1123.29 g, 1189.56 g and 1239.70 g, respectively. The significant difference in the internal organs heart and liver of all groups while, non-significant difference was observed in the weight of gizzard and intestine of all groups. Result indicated that the birds led on ration E: in which fish meal was replaced with meat meal at 100% level was highly significant (P less than 0.01) better in weight gain, feed consumption and per unit weight gain as compared to other rations in which fish meal was replaced with meat meal at 0.25, 50 and 75 percent level. The present result indicates that fishmeal can be replaced with meat meal.
