Effect of plant density and fertilizer rates on the growth and yield of cotton
2000
Korai, M.Y.
The invesitigation were conducted to find out the best suitable fertilizer rate and row x plant spacing for obtaining optimum seed cotton yield of cotton crop at Cotton Section, Agriculture Research Institute, Tandojam during Kharif 1998. The cultivar selected for this experiment was Qalandri. Fertilizer rates were control, 60-60. 90-60, and 120-60 kg NP/ha. And row x plant spacings were 60 x 37.5. 75 x 25; .90 x 20 and 90 x 20 cm respectively with three replications having plot size of 5 x 8.5 meters. The experiment was laid out in split plat design. Fertilizer treatments were kept as main plot and row plant spacing as sub-plots All fertilizer rates did not increase the number of bulls/plant, bolls weight/plant number of picked bolls/plant, and seed cotton weight/plant over control significantly, while the staple length G.O.T were increased to some extent by the application of 60-60 kg NP/ha over other treatments and control. Plant grow in row x Plant Spacing of 90 x 20 cm produced significantly more number of picked bolls/plant. Seed cotton weight/plant than the other spacings, but only boll weight was statistically the same in all spacings. Fertilizer rate higher than 60-60 kg NP/ha had not showed any significant response. Row x plant spacing of 90 x 25 cm or 75 x 30 cm appeared to be more productive than other spacings respectively.
