Technology of harvesting and ensiling of meadow sward as a factor conditioning the quality and nutritive value of silage

Silage from prewilted meadow sward was prepared according two technologies: in clamps and in big cylindrical bales. Silages were analysed for the content of dry matter, pH in silage fresh matter, lactic, acetic and butyric acids and participation of the ammonia in total nitrogen. Content of particular nutrients was evaluated too. Silages were tested in feeding trials on the heifers. The silage made according to both technologies was of good quality. Average daily weight gains of the heifers raged within 0.550-0.660 kg in group fed with silage from big bales and 0.580-0.590 kg in group fed with silage from the clamp
